Tunnel to Towers Climb Tampa

On Saturday, October 21, 2023, the city of Tampa, Florida, will come alive with a fundraising event that carries the mantra “While we have time, LET US DO GOOD“—an embodiment of hope and gratitude. The Tunnel to Towers Climb Foundation, was born from Stephen Siller, who died tragically on September 11, 2001. The foundation is dedicated to aiding injured veterans, first responders, and their families. This event is an integral part of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which strives to create a better future for those who’ve sacrificed so much for our nation. Century Buick GMC along with GMC are proud to be a part of this incredible fundraiser.

Surviving, for many injured veterans, doesn’t always translate to living. The Smart Home Program initiated by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation aims to change this reality by offering deserving men and women mortgage-free smart homes. These homes are specially designed to provide the most catastrophically injured service members with a chance at more independent lives.

The story behind the foundation is both poignant and inspiring. Stephen Siller, guided by the philosophy of “while we have time, let us do good,” tragically lost his life while trying to save those trapped in the World Trade Center towers on 9/11. In his honor, the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established to commemorate the bravery and dedication of those who risk their lives for our country.

The foundation offers several programs, including the construction of Smart Homes for injured veterans. These homes are tailored to meet the unique needs of each veteran, featuring automated doors and lighting, wider halls and doorways, touchscreen device-controlled heating and air conditioning systems, and more. The ultimate goal is to build over 200 Smart Homes for veterans in need.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation also extends support to Gold Star families, providing mortgage-free homes to surviving spouses with young children. Their dedication is evident as they aim to expand the 5K Run & Walk and Tower Climb events to 70 communities across the United States.

To date, 92 Smart Homes are either complete, in progress, or in the design stage, and the Gold Star program is committed to providing 1,000 mortgage-free homes to families. By the end of 2020, the Foundation will have delivered a total of 250 mortgage-free homes and have spent $250 million on its three major programs: Smart Homes, Fallen First Responder, and Gold Star.

In the spirit of Stephen Siller’s legacy, let’s come together as a community to ensure that those who have sacrificed for our freedom receive the support they truly deserve.
